Teething???

Gavin has been fussy for the last few days and wants to chew (not suck) on everything. He's got extra drool, and his eating and sleeping cycles are off. About a week ago he also had a day or two where he was extra drool-y and wanted to chew. I don't see or feel any signs of teeth in his mouth and it's way early compared to "average," but what else could be going on? Do babies' teeth sometimes move around and irritate them significantly before they actually cut through? Does this irritability usually keep up until teeth do finally come through?

Rachel started "teething" at 2 months with all the signs you're describing. Her first tooth didn't emerge until 7 months. I was convinced that my precocious little one was going to get a tooth right when she started "teething", but my pediatrician friends assured me that it's normal to "teethe" for many months before the tooth appears. I guess they were right ;-). [but they were quick to point out that some kids are born with teeth...so you never know!]

Amy here---

Every picture of Peter between 3-5 months shows him covered in drool, but the first teeth didn't show up until he was five months.

Daniel started teething around 4 months as well, and his first popped though around 5 months, if I'm remembering right!

Isn't it fun?
